Commissioner of Elections Susan Beals on Wednesday expressed concerns with the operational performance of the U.S. Postal Service ahead of the 2024 presidential election in Virginia, warning that mail-in ballots may not be processed in time to be counted.
Election officials depend on the U.S. mail service to deliver ballots to voters and to return ballots to election officials, Beals told members of the Virginia House of Delegates Privileges and Elections Committee at a meeting in Richmond. What I am hoping to change is the expectation of voters, that if I put my ballot in the mail five days before election day that it is going to get there. You need to plan further out than that.
Beals, who was appointed as Virginias commissioner of election by Gov. Glenn Youngkin in March 2022, responded to a question by Del. Phillip Scott, R-Fredericksburg, who had asked what she considered the biggest threat to the upcoming election.
Beals said since before the 2023 election cycle, the Department of Elections has seen issues with mail-in ballots cast by voters who had been living in the same house for decades.

(5,016 posts)If you VBM, you should try to drop your ballot off in person to a drop box and as early as possible.

A bipartisan group of legislators including both Senators requested a meeting with USPS officials months ago and were told no. I guess the USPS can do that.
Its really bad. Ive received utility bills at work that were mailed within the area two weeks prior.

(5,016 posts)arrived to her (she's in a nursing facility in JCC) and at first I thought someone may have stolen to try to vote as her, but it apparently never arrived back to the elections office either. Who knows where it went??
Again, I will be hand delivering my ballot this year and keeping my fingers crossed my mom's ballot arrives to her and I'll do the same with her ballot.

(2,592 posts)I complete my ballot and take it to my polling place and drop it in the box. Don't trust anything to the post office.
Think. Again.

Anyone who pretends they didn't see this coming is lying.

Recently I tested the service by sending a birthday card from Florida to California - it took THREE weeks to get there.
How many people plan to vote by mail? How many will allow a month for delivery?

(5,124 posts)Link to check your voter status in Virginia. Again, I do not trust Gubner Trumpkin, Susan Beals, or other lackeys to not mess with the voter rolls. Been checking Mrs. Best and my status weekly.
Early in-person voting starts September 20th.
