Virginia officials ask Supreme Court to allow voter purge aimed at non-citizens

Republican officials in Virginia have asked the Supreme Court to lift a lower-court order that requires the state to halt and roll back a program to remove suspected non-citizens from the voter rolls.

In a filing docketed early Monday, state Attorney General Jason Miyares requested a stay that would head off a deadline Wednesday to restore about 1,600 people to the voter rolls who were kicked off since Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin issued an executive order in August stepping up the computer cross-checks.

Civil rights groups and the Justice Department filed suits earlier this month claiming that, because of the risk of removing qualified voters, it’s illegal under federal law for the state to operate such a program during the so-called “quiet period” 90 days before a federal election. A federal district court judge agreed and issued an injunction against the program last week.

On Sunday, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals refused to grant the GOP officials a stay of that ruling, setting up the Supreme Court showdown. Chief Justice John Roberts, who oversees the 4th Circuit, asked the Justice Department and civil rights groups to respond by 3 p.m. Tuesday.

because I bet they wouldn't give TSF immunity.

The majority of the court is fascist.

the prep work to hear the case and hear the arguments would take more than a week. The election would be over by that time.

Elections are run by the states.

and don’t let them vote on the machines? Rather, give them provisional ballots which will be scrutinized by the Board of Elections. And discarded if they truly are non-citizens.

Think. Again.

In response to this request from Virginia officials, the Supreme Court has just ruled that the entire State of Virginia must be handed over in full ownership to Donald J. Trump as recompense for the emotional trauma of having 1600 voter's rights possibly temporarily restored.

In addition, the Supreme Court has ruled that D.J. Trump shall now forever be the final adjudicator of any and all Virginia Voter Rights Legal Challenges, forever.

Virginia asks Supreme Court to allow voter rolls purge before election

Virginia election officials on Monday asked the Supreme Court to block a ruling by a federal judge that would bar them from reviving a program put in place in August by the state’s Republican governor intended to remove suspected noncitizens from the state’s voting rolls.

U.S. District Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles on Friday ordered the state to restore the registration of more than 1600 people whom it had taken off the rolls as part of the program, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit on Sunday turned down the state’s request to step in.

In an executive order on Aug. 7, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin ordered state election officials to expedite the use of data from the state’s department of motor vehicles to identify and cancel the voter registration of suspected noncitizens unless they could verify their citizenship within 14 days.

A federal court found that that the database flagged and canceled the registration of at least some eligible citizens and that those voters were unaware of the fact that they were no longer able to vote.
