VA-HD26, VA-SD36: First Day of Early Voting for Key Virginia Special Elections
Early voting begins today, December 11, for the House District 26 and Senate District 32 special elections. It is essential to keep these seats blue to protect our Democratic majority in the General Assembly and to serve as a check on the Republicans agenda.
Delegate Kannan Srinivasan won the SD-32 Democratic nomination to replace Congressman-elect Suhas Subramanyam in the State Senate. Del. Srinivasan, currently representing HD-26, has helped pass bills to provide free school meals for students and expand mental health resources in schools and has proposed bills to increase access to affordable health care. JJ Singh won the HD-26 Democratic nomination to replace Srinivasan in the House of Delegates. Singhs priorities include lowering the cost of living, driving sustainable economic growth, and passing common sense legislation to reduce gun violence.
Winning these seats is critical to preserving and advancing the progress Democrats have made after gaining control of the General Assembly in 2023. If we maintain our majority, Democrats can pass three constitutional amendments, including one that will enshrine access to reproductive health care. For these amendments to appear on the ballot in 2026, they must be passed by the General Assembly in the 2026 session as well.
The only way we can protect womens health care, advance legislation that benefits working families, and strengthen our public schools is by maintaining our Democratic majority, DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker said. I encourage every voter to take the opportunity to vote early. Our majority is the last line of defense against Donald Trump and Republicans chaotic and harmful agendawe must continue to be the brick wall that stands in their way.
