Seattle tops the nation for GDP growth
The Seattle metro's economy grew at a blistering pace despite its cooling job market and rising cost of living.
Seattles gross domestic product from 2022 to 2023 jumped 6.2% to $487.77 billion, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis released Wednesday. Thats the fastest growth among U.S. metros with population over 1.5 million.
The fastest-growing metros after Seattle were Houston (5.4%), Charlotte, North Carolina (4.7%), San Antonio (4.6%) and Austin, Texas, and Orlando, Florida (tied at 4.5%). The average metro grew by 2.7%.
"Post-pandemic, the region has rebounded strong(ly)," Josh Brown, executive director of Puget Sound Regional Council told the Business Journal. "It's really great to see that the data backs up what a lot of us feel on the ground, which is we're headed in the right direction. And to see that we're growing faster than most metropolitan regions is very reassuring."
