Boeing layoffs continue with hundreds of job cuts in Washington

The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) is cutting more Washington jobs.

The latest round of layoffs affects nearly 400 workers across Seattle, Everett, Auburn, Renton, Tukwila, Kent, Bremerton and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, per a notice filed Monday with the state Employment Security Department. The cuts are part of the aerospace giant's plan, announced in October, to eliminate 17,000 jobs nationwide in an effort to "remain competitive over the long term," according to CEO Kelly Ortberg.

Employees will receive three months of severance pay and subsidized health care in addition to career transition services, the company said.

The notice comes shortly after a union for some of Boeing's engineers and technicians announced the company was laying off 222 of its members. It's unclear whether that news is related to Monday's notice.
