Seattle judge denies request to dismiss protester trespassing case

SEATTLE — A Seattle Municipal Court judge has ruled that a trespassing case against six protesters arrested during a council meeting can proceed.

Judge Catherine McDowall denied a defense motion Monday to dismiss the case.

The protesters were arrested Feb. 27 after disrupting council proceedings and refusing to leave.

Attorneys for one of the protesters argued that their client's first amendment rights were violated when city council closed public comment during the meeting, and their client wasn't able to express their views.
