Washington could require bars to carry spiked drink drug tests

They’re not old enough yet to drink in bars, but a group of Washington students wants to make nightlife in the state safer.

A bill in the state Legislature requested by Lake Washington High School students aims to protect people from drink spiking.

The measure would require some establishments selling alcohol, including bars and nightclubs, to have testing kits on hand so patrons can see if their drinks have been drugged. Sponsors amended the bill this week in light of concerns of overreach lodged by a hospitality trade group.

Businesses covered by the proposal would also have to post a notice that test kits are available.

2. Believe it or not, but I was at a party long ago, where somebody's drink was spiked. And the good thing was that

we caught the guy doing it. They pretty well kicked him out of the party afterwards. Keep an eye on your drinks folks. It doesn't happen all that much, but it does rarely. And if your drink tastes funny, pour it out. Don't put it down otherwise someone else may accidently grab it and drink out of it. Pour it out, and report it to the host. The guy we caught that was caught spiking the drink got a lot of grief and I'm still surprised that he didn't get a whopping. He should have, or the cops should have been called.

4. Sadly, it's not terribly uncommon

I have two friends it happened to, and I don’t have a lot of girlfriends.

One didn’t know she was raped until she found out she was pregnant and hadn’t had sex in over 6 months. She thought she just drank too much and passed out. It was devastating. The other friend was drugged at the bar we worked at, a place we trusted and knew everyone. Thankfully, she and a very trusted friend left to go smoke a bowl and he noticed she was “off” and helped her get home. She had downed the rest of her drink real quick right before they left. She has no memory after leaving the bar. (the friend was 100% legit, and gay, to boot, and he was absolutely livid when he returned to the bar. She had thrown darts with a group of three guys we didn’t know, so we think it was them.)

Never, ever set your drink down.
I am 1000% for bars being required to carry these testing strips.

testing strips. Or, if they know you at the bar, as well as everybody else, someone will keep an eye out for you. The bar I go to is like this, they all watch out for each other.

Take care!
