Rocket company Blue Origin to lay off 10% of workforce

Kent-headquartered rocket company Blue Origin is will lay off 10% of its workforce, CEO Dave Limp told employees Thursday.

The company employs 14,000 people, according to media reports, so the cuts will affect about 1,400 workers across its offices and facilities.

Limp said in a memo to staff, obtained by the Business Journal, that the cuts will be in project management, engineering, and research and development in an attempt at "thinning out our layers of management."

"We grew and hired incredibly fast in the last few years, and with that growth came more bureaucracy and less focus than we needed," Limp wrote in the memo.
