Boeing reportedly explores sale of WA drone subsidiary as part of streamlining efforts
The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) is reportedly exploring the sale of Insitu, its Bingen, Washington-based military drone company. Boeing hired an adviser to look for interested parties, Bloomberg first reported Feb. 24.
The move comes after Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said in a January earnings call that the company, amid turnaround efforts, plans to focus on its core commercial aircraft and defense systems "while streamlining our portfolio in areas that aren't core to us." In October, the company was reported to be exploring the sale of parts of its space business.
Insitu is drawing interest from private equity firms and corporate buyers, and could be valued around $500 million, according to Bloombergs report.
Arlington, Virginia-based Boeing acquired the company in 2008. Insitu worked with Boeing to create ScanEagle, a long-endurance unmanned aircraft system.
