Starbucks corporate layoffs hit hundreds of Seattle workers

Seattle is bearing the brunt of Starbucks' corporate layoffs.

More than half of the 1,100 job cuts announced by the coffee giant earlier this week are at its Sodo headquarters, per a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed Wednesday with the state Employment Security Department.

The layoffs, which will impact 612 workers, are to begin taking effect May 2, with workers receiving severance pay based on tenure.

Starbucks Corp. (Nasdaq: SBUX) employs more than 3,500 employees at its Sodo headquarters and other regional offices. It's still unclear which departments are most affected.
