Google to exit Fremont offices, consolidate Seattle workforce in South Lake Union

Google (Nasdaq: GOOGL) will leave its office space in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood, the company confirmed Friday.

Google, pointing to a desire to increase collaboration and community, said it planned to move employees to South Lake Union, where it has nearly 1 million square feet of office space.

The Mountain View, California-based company's departure from Fremont changes the calculus of Seattle's office space recovery as it leaves behind nearly 300,000 square feet of space, according to CoStar data.

"As we’ve said before, we’re focused on investing in real estate efficiently to meet the current and future needs of our hybrid workforce," Google spokesperson Ryan Lamont said. "We remain committed to our long-term presence in Seattle.”

The idea is some people thrive in the office and others by working from home, so you set up your infrastructure to accommodate both.
