The Trump regime has decided not to refuse Washingtons request for federal aid to respond to the extreme flooding impacting communities up and down the I‑5 corridor.
Multiple rivers including the Skagit, Stillaguamish, Snohomish, Snoqulamie, and Nooksack have overflowed their banks and swamped nearby homes, farms, and businesses after an atmospheric river drenched the region with an incredible amount of rainfall. These floods are affecting not just low-lying structures that have been through floods before, but buildings that are slightly higher up and further away.
I just received a phone call from Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, said Governor Bob Ferguson in a statement released at 10:50 AM. Secretary Noem informed me that the president signed our request for an emergency declaration. We have also received written confirmation of that emergency declaration. I expressed my thanks to Secretary Noem on behalf of the people of the State of Washington during this extremely challenging time. More details at our 2 PM media availability.
Senator Maria Cantwell was delighted to see the executive branch helping Washington instead of trying to hurt it. In a brief statement, she said: Thank you for the fast emergency declaration! Thank you for helping respond to our infrastructure needs. Thank you for supporting our first responders. Thank you!
