Republican Brags About Sabotaging Border Security Deal

Talking on Fox News's The Ingraham Angle on Thursday about a border security deal reportedly in the works between Senate Democrats and Republicans, Johnson, who's part of the Homeland Security Committee, said he's been "pretty well leading the efforts to slow this process down."
A bipartisan border security and immigration deal, which would unlock the stalled aid package for Ukraine blocked by House Republicans, has reportedly been the object of talks between the White House and key senators. In a joint statement issued by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell before the Senate went into recess for the holidays, the two said that negotiations "continue to make headway."
But Johnson has been undermining the importance of such a bipartisan deal, saying that it's impossible to engage in honest talks with Democrats about the topic.
"I've got 14 of my colleagues to sign a letter to Republican leadership to hold a conference meeting when we return on January 8," the Wisconsin senator told host Laura Ingraham. "That was really designed to make sure that they won't jam us this week to take a vote on a bill that nobody has seen," he added. "I think we were largely successful."
.................
"The problem we have is that we're negotiating with an administration and Democrats in the Senate who want an open border," he concluded. Johnson took credit for the Senate going into recess without voting on any border security measures.

(51,091 posts)They are, of course, hypocrites because they don't really know how to govern. They just want to get in the way, mess things up, and enjoy whatever power they can grab for other purposes: mostly the care and feeding of the 1%.

and it was and continues to be true that Johnson practically lives in Florida. He has a house there and seldom visits WI.
But, in the end, the people of WI voted the slime-ball back into office.

Johnson's seat was once considered to be one of the most vulnerable for the GOP this cycle, and he was polling closely with Barnes for months. But Barnes started to slip behind Johnson in recent polling, in part after being hit with a slew of ads labeling Barnes as soft on crime.
Johnson repeatedly brought up crime in his campaign, and targeted Barnes for opposing the cash-bail system, saying Barnes is "the guy who wrote the bill to release criminals without bail."
Barnes pushed back, telling NPR in October: "[Johnson] only brings up Milwaukee when he talks about crime, but he's never shown up to try to help. He has prioritized the interests and the profits of the gun lobby over the lives of our children and our public safety."

While Barnes outraised Johnson in campaign funding, the race was also fueled by millions of dollars from outside groups who piled on in attacks ads against Barnes.
Johnson, a Trump supporter, has also repeatedly downplayed the Jan. 6 insurrection. He said it "didn't seem as - like an armed insurrection to me.".................

(1,442 posts)You OWN this malicious, lying bag of rat excrement. What an absolutely vile excuse for a human being. The fact that Johnson continues to foul the halls of Congress with his very presence says NOTHING good about your judgment or your character.
I have MUCH stronger words to describe my utter contempt for Johnson and his despicable ilk, but I'll exercise restraint... for now.
