Basil Borutski's refusal to sign a probation order to stay away from one of the three women he allegedly killed earlier this week in separate Ontario communities should have been "a huge red flag" to authorities, according to an advocate for victims of crime.

there were multiple huge red flags to authorities, imo, and yet nothing was done about him until he murdered three women.

and, all too often, this is the end result. There is still a 'wink and a nod' to men on the part of the authorities, reports minimizing the violence and, as in this case, staying the charges multiple times.

I have a relative that works in law enforcement specifically with domestic violence victims and she finds the courts really frustrating. Even when the police back the women 100%, the courts drop the ball often.

6. It is like that with child sexual abuse/child pornography as well, imo...

when the rare conviction occurs, the sentence is often a grotesque slap on the hand. It is infuriating.

2. Absolutely shocking! I'd like to say, 'Beyond belief', but nothing is, these days. By not

signing that order, he was clearly bating them, challenging them... expressing his fathomless contempt for the law.

In a more nuanced system, he and anyone who publicly threatened to kill a woman should be imprisoned for the rest of his life. If necessary - a threat to use others, while in prison - placed in permanent, solitary confinement without visitors at all.
