Liberals still inept on ethics as the excuses for Geng Tan now come from the PMO.

"Former House of Commons law clerk Rob Walsh said he did not consider Mr. Tan's actions to be part of his responsibilities as an MP.

"This doesn't sound like a parliamentary function," Mr. Walsh said. "What is he doing that for? Why does he have to go to China to deliver a letter to the Canadian embassy when he could walk across the street and put it in the post-office box?"

Mr. Walsh said if a cabinet minister acted as an intermediary for a man under investigation for securities fraud and money laundering, "there would be all kinds of demands for accountability."

Here's a guy who lied about taking sponsored travel to China and met with members of the United Front, a Chinese government arm meant to subvert Chinese citizens abroad, and now he's been caught helping some scammer and the PMO says "he was doing his job."

Canada is going down the crapper.

to proclaim that "Canada is going down the crapper" is an outrageous overstatement.

I think that our country has had serious abandonement of ethics in the last decade. Canadians are too hyped up on patriotic coffee advertisements to see it. British Columbia alone was a friggin' mafia state until last election. No attention was paid until the New York Times wrote about it.

I'll leave you to stew in your own pessimism. There are always political hurdles, frauds, con artists, etc. either at the federal, provincial or municipal levels. It's an ongoing challenge to hold everyone accountable. We do the best we can to root out the bad apples.

For all his faults, and there are a growing number of them, I'd still rather have Justin Trudeau than Donny Trump.

"Well at least he's not Trump" gives them a license to do whatever they want.

We don't do the best we can, that's my issue. Canada is a company run by corporations and back room deals headed by unaccountable governments. That's not pessimism, it's reality.

There's a confidence and supply agreement between the other two parties. Otherwise the Libs would still be in power.

You can choose to remain blind, most Canadians do. But this stuff is hurting our reputation abroad and hurting us internally. You just wait until the Infrastructure Bank is the big sell off of our public assets to Bay St.

If you need more tangible examples look at how real estate money has corrupted Vancouver and Toronto. Citizens can't afford a home as politicians who take big bucks from developers say "nothing we can do!"

Look at the NEB corruption with the pipeline through Quebec. Sure, they were forced to scrap it when the story came out but no one was punished.

How about guys like Senator Yuen Pau Woo. An Aussie senator resigned to public outrage after he made the exact same kind of comments Woo made about the South China sea. Only Woo said that in the house during a speech and he's now the HEAD of the indie senators.

Our politicians fly to taiwan courtesy of a business group with criminals on its board to "meet them" and nothing happens.

Site C in BC kicking people off their land for a legacy building boondoggle. I can do this all day.

It just goes on and on.

Seriously. I'm not joking. We're in trouble.

Trying to bash liberals trying to use that conservative rag "The Globe and Mail" isn't going to get you anywhere around here.

But you knew this already, didn't you?

The globe's reporting on this case has been STELLAR and 100% true, but you are attacking them as conservative because you don't like the facts of the case. They are inconvenient for a Trudeau supporter.

EVERYTHING in this is true. You need to start there before you start trying to dismiss serious journalism with that crap attitude.

Read the story or don't. But don't sit here and pretend the facts aren't true.

BTW, don't try to play the "I'm more progressive than you" card when you're supporting Trudeau, the most right wing Liberal government possibly ever.

Electoral reform as a threat to the nation?

Only some with significant intellectual deficiencies would say something like that.

He's basically Bush without the Christianity.

The infrastructure bank!? How can any progressive support that? "Ya, we're just gonna let private interests run all our infrastructure for profit. Mainly from China too!" Yeeha, what a fucking hero.

NDP, Green, BQ, and Pirate Party need to work together to displace the Liberal Party as Canada's dominant "centre-left" faction.
