What explains the poor cognition of Britains governing class, which, unlike voters, is supposed to grapple with policy detail? Here are some possible explanations:
Many Tories are cynics faking it.
The corollary: there is no political advantage in grasping reality if your voters dont.
Widmerpoolism.
An inability to admit past error
If your genuine beliefs contradict reality, deny reality.
Denying reality proves your fanaticism to other fanatics.

(10,519 posts)1. If Labour's Jeremy Corbyn was a competent leader
perhaps the Tories would be voted out. But Corbyn doesn't appear to be the one to lead Labour out of the wilderness and save Britain. Maybe Marxism and antisemitism aren't the keys to electoral success after all.

And Corbyn's failure to hold the Tories to account for the disastrous project to leave the EU has only exacerbated matters.
