"Warning: Unresponsive plugin" ? ON EDIT: How do I uninstall & reinstall Firefox?
(Well, now/this-instant another kind of problem: No cursor marking where I'm typing!)
Something is going on. It started just after going to the Ancestry.com site, clicking on their various graphics. I'm not blaming, just saying that that was the last site I visited before the problems started. Did they insert a Cookie?
So the plugin problem: Getting a frozen screen, every few seconds the "Warning/unresponsive plugin" pops up; after a few times, then a popup offers the options of Debugging / Continuing/ Stop script.
Sometimes the Stop Script button works and allows proceeding to normal navigation.
I tried searching This PC for "plugins" and only got a list of Windows plugins. I thought this might be something like Temp files that needed to be cleaned out.
Oh, my cursor is back. What's going on here?

(72,597 posts)Not blaming you. I'm just VERY low-tech. I know you are being helpful. Thanks. (I'm having to post this on IE because all my Firefox stuff is gone somewhere.)

(72,597 posts)So am going to Restart now. Or rather, am just going to turn it off and take a break.
Didn't think about resetting the home page being a problem.
Quick video on how to set it.

(21,506 posts)This sounds like a flash problem.
Don't know what version of windows you are using but i would go to programs and features and remove any adobe flash you find there.
After that restart the computer and go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Reinstall it by following the prompts. That should fix it. If the problem remains then I would definitely get malwarebytes ,it is free, and run a scan. I would do that anyway really.

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue.

O.K., first I'm going to take your advice about the malwarebytes. My concern about it is whether it will conflict with my own antivirus program. But oh well.
It's Windows 10. After I run the malaware deal, I'll check back about asking you here whether uninstalling Firefox & reinstalling is a better thing to do than the flash thing.
Egnever
(21,506 posts)it wipes the browser of any add ins and restores the settings to original.
It looks like an add causing the problem but I am not entirely sure. I am almost certain malware-bytes will find stuff. It should not conflict with any antivirus you have.

(72,597 posts)It said it is an "executable" file that might damage etc etc. Besides that the website said to "run" it, which I have NO clue how to do. I mentioned I'm totally LOW tech.
So I'll see about the adobe deal. Although I have no clue where to look besides Uninstall.

(21,506 posts)Malwarebytes is one of the most widely used antispyware programs on the planet. https://www.malwarebytes.org/dl-confirm/

Those are amazon reviews of the program you will see it is 99% positive. It is possible your browser is redirecting you to a bad site for the download.
I am almost certain you have an infection. Likely a program that was added without your knowledge. Like cuopon finder or something along those lines.
Given low tech though fixing this may be beyond my ability to talk you through it.

(72,597 posts)I opened up Firefox without the problems.
So, perhaps you had the answer. Now I'm going to reinstall it and will let you know.

(72,597 posts)They where gone for the duration when Adobe Flash was not present, and now are back when Adobe Flash is back.
Hmm. O.K., am going to trust the Malware thing.
Egnever
(21,506 posts)It is ok to do. A lot of the web has dumped it already.
I am sure the malware bytes will help though as long as you get it from the official site.
UTUSN
(72,597 posts)I didn't know what to expect at the beginning so while it was looking for its own updates it looked like nothing was happening for a long time, but finally it went along step by step.
It didn't find anything for most of the early steps until it finally found 21 in Registry, then another 6 in File System, then it popped up to 1,087 or so and finally quarantined them. Fine.
Then the Restart and back to the browser and guess what, the exact same problem and error message.
So thanks, really, for everything. I guess I'll uninstall the Adobe Flash and see what that stymies me out of.
Egnever
(21,506 posts)Assuming you had it remove everything it found. There is still something left and malware bytes didn't get it all. As in did not find everything.
I don't know what software you run and whatnot but you still likely have an inection/adware still in your machine.
I don't know how important that is to you but want to make sure you are aware.
