O.K., Microsoft, I have an EDGE problem, this is getting intolerable
I have a couple of threads going about a new laptop (HP) that has been having an Auto Refresh problem - a sudden/unexpected Refresh. One of the "solutions" was to Disable Meta Refresh in Control Panel - Network & Internet - Internet Options - Security - Custom Level - Meta Refresh
Well, that seemed to work for about six days, then started up again, with the Disable remaining.
*************ANYWAY, *this* is tonight's problem:
Clicking into DU, the whole DU table format is GONE. What I've got is a whole screen of text, with all of DU sprawling down the screen as text. Everything works, but without the table format.
On the android, the DU is normal, and here where I'm typing in Chrome same normal thing. It appears to be a Microsoft Edge problem.
Any ideas?????? What, ditching Edge? Seeing what happens in the morning?

(21,506 posts)Get rid of it. It is an add platform much more than a web browser.
It is incompatible with many sites.
You will only Chase headaches with edge it just is not worth it imho.
If you must use a Microsoft browser use internet explorer it is in ten as well it is just hidden.
If you type internet explorer in the Cortana search box it will pop up.

(1,642 posts)It's great for downloading Firefox.
It's pretty good with downloading Chrome, too.
And, it's just awesome how it occupies space in the taskbar, by default.
<sigh>
A lot of people just do what Microsoft tells them to do.

(72,597 posts)A year ago I finally tried Firefox and gave it a good year and had a shitload of frozen screens and don't even remember what else, so that's OUT.
I've avoided Chrome, but apparently I'm headed that way.

(43,049 posts)Your Edge problem might be that you somehow managed to zoom the page. Click on those three dots on the upper right and lower the zoom to 100% if that's the case.
Another popular browser is Opera, which has also been rebuilt and is fast and sturdy.

(3,216 posts)which I have reverted to, has a ton of vital addons I need. The new one disabled like all but 4 of my 25 addons. I'm going to wait 6 months and try to find replacement addons for the new FF, but right now they've pissed me off.
But again, for normies, the new FF is pretty good.
ALSO - I almost never got frozen screens with the old one.
Oh well.

(72,597 posts)First of all, I posted about shifting over to Chrome half an hour ago and when I checked back, there was NO post. Whaaa?!1 So posted a test and the new one is here, so here's repeating the Chrome post:
***********
So, checked into Edge to see whether the problem with DU was fixed. Nope. All the other websites/Favorites show no problem, just DU with the Table format of the page gone, showing content as a whole page of text. Tried "Browse" and "Show All" and still just text.
So set Chrome as default, am there now, did the Import bookmarks thing. Don't like the Bookmarks Bar, but more seriously only a fraction of the Favorites got imported, plus there are no categories for sorting them out. ON EDIT: O.K., I see that Folders can be added into the Bookmarks Manager, setting up categories.
I suppose there's a tutorial/tour for Chrome somewhere. I'm aware I'm burdening anybody who pops in here to see my floundering around.
O.K., testing now, going away and coming back to see if this post is here. O.K., back now and the post is here. Who knows what button I pushed before that made the other one disappear.

(72,597 posts)Holding/dragging to move Favorites or folders into a higher or lower order was not "solid". Was always losing control of the cursor and dropping the item wherever. In Chrome the gripping to move things is totally secure, with the target place very clear.
*****O.K., see now that the folder for "Other Bookmarks" in the Bookmarks Bar opens up into a drop down menu with the categories listed, similar to what I was used to in Edge. Fine.
