Source on-line for laptop battery: any suggestions?
I have an old HP laptop that needs a new battery. Staples is too expensive, in fact I did not even check them.
Just had my computer man work on my desktop(Win 10) but the battery on the laptop is dead. I was told that I can use it plugged in but I'd like to get a new battery.
Can anyone on DU suggest a reliable source(s) ? There are so many on-line sellers and I will have to search for a reliable seller who might have a battery for this old HP. I don't use it much because it still has Windows 7 but for my needs, it is fine.
If you have any suggestions and don't want to post the name, you could message me with the names and I can search for the best deal I can find?
I would appreciate any help as my funds are limited and any saving would be a great help.
Thanks,

(7,715 posts)I've sourced tons of computer parts from ebay, and find them, often times, cheap.
If that doesn't work, Amazon sometimes has spare computer parts.
If neither of those don't work, I will check where I last bought something like this. I had to buy a spare laptop battery, but that was many years ago.

(21,093 posts)Search under the brand and type of computer you have.
Buy a battery that comes with free returns.
Best of luck!

(5,969 posts)For example, searching on Amazon for your type would be my first option. You often find third party components that are cheaper than the original. Even though you could get unlucky, I haven't had problems so far with products that had many, many good reviews.
Beware from ordering from online shops you don't know or at least check for independent customer experiences. That saved me. I was recently looking around for batteries and only learnt how many fraud shops there are. Even with promised paypal protection, they'll trick you into doing things that'll void those protections.
Maybe members here could help you more if you'd name the exact model of your laptop and the specifications of the battery.

(5,125 posts)IF you open it up you may find the part number right on the battery.
Or the link below can help you find the part number by your HP model number information.

(Don't know the above, but if the price is good, they look like legit for HP supplies, you can check their rating on BBB too.)
Second, take that part number and look at places like, Batteries Plus, Interstate Battery. Micro Center or New Egg and see if they have it in stock or available online.
If you wind up on EBay or Amazon, make sure the seller has over 20,000 recommendations 98% good. That will show they have been around long enough and with 98% positive probably aren't screwing people over much. You can also look at what their complaints are about, if they have any about not delivering correct product, move on.
Hope that helps.

(59,815 posts)Great prices, but what they offer online varies by what state you are in as they are primarily a brick & mortar store.
