"Feature update to Windows 10, version 20H2" is taking forever to install on my
laptop. It is currently at 79% and has been at the number a long time. I can't let the laptop go to sleep because it won't update while asleep. Does anyone have any advice? I am afraid to shut the thing off with a partially installed update.

(3,895 posts)1. Definitely let it continue
If your computer sleeps and you can't avoid that now (you can change sleep in settings, but not during an update already in progress). If you have no choice but to let it sleep, it should continue when you wake it.

(30,293 posts)3. I gave up and rebooted. Then I paused updates for seven days because it wanted to start
downloading that update again. Everything is working normally. I plan to change the settings so the laptop won't go to sleep and let the thing run all night next week if necessary.

(1,050 posts)4. The method I've used since Version 1511, the original Windows 10
Download the Windows 10 media creation tool from here.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Create a USB and run the upgrade from the USB you created.
I've been able to upgrade since 1511, the initial version of Windows 10 with this method.
