Trying to "opt out" of ads/cookies (not on DU, elsewhere)
I frequently get this notice upon visiting websites that want to place cookies. If I click on it to "opt out" it takes me to a page with choices and toggle buttons.
The problem is, they never define which state is which: is the colored button, which typically means "On", the way to opt out, or to allow cookies?
Here's the tricky language they use:
You may exercise your right to opt out of the sale of personal information by using this toggle switch. If you opt out we will not be able to offer you personalised ads and will not hand over your personal information to any third parties
How to decipher what the toggle switch means when it isn't labeled?
I always assume that the original state of the button is their default, thus means "accept cookies." But, there's also language that says that if my browser has privacy plugins, that may automatically be reflected--which I take to mean, might toggle the button to the opt out state as default when I land on the page.
Also, once I "confirm choice", how do I re-summon that page to change it again?
If anyone knows how to decipher this madness, please help.
BTW, this is on an android phone, not computer.
