Our internet is way throttled down right now because we are rural, outside broadband, use satellite, and they throttle us after we use up our "unlimited" bandwidth.we pay a ridiculous amount for. Could be why so slow?
Thought I might take out battery for a minute but can't figure out how to?

(1,557 posts)If you press and hold down the power button, the PC should shut down. Some say hold it down for 10-15 seconds.
Then restart it.

(4,902 posts)I eventually just shut it down for a couple of minutes and then started it up again. Frustrating to have to take the time to do that. In comparison my old Windows (6 or 7?) worked much better for my needs. Had to upgrade this winter. Good luck. It must be very frustrating with your other limitations. Good luck.

How long do you think a midrange laptop should work?
I have a Dell I bought for about $600 about 4 years ago. It is my lifeblood for my business. Wondering if I need a new one? It looks like LG is well rated right now.
And WTF do I do with all my old technology? Laptops, tablets, phones. I hate planned obsolescence!

(1,050 posts)Most businesses are on a 4 year replacement cycle, depending on the system's useage. I've got an 11 year old Dell running the Latest version of Windows 10 and Office 365 just fine.
As for older tech, I refurbish what still works and give it away to kids and families that need it. The rest I sell to hobbyists who like old tech, and then I recycle the rest.

I don't know how to refurbish...

(1,050 posts)is how comfortable you are with the inner workings of computer hardware and software. If you are comfortable, you can fis/replace hardware and reinstall software to your hearts/budgets content. If not, you'll probably be happier passing the items off to a knowledgeable techie who can refurbish ithem.
