Phone calls that can't seem to be disconnected easily

I've had 3 landline calls today from some person jibbering in some unrecognizable foreign language. Sounds Asian to me. Caller doesn't understand "wrong number!"

But the third one wouldn't hang up. I kept hanging up and the call was still there. Clicking the hangup button didn't work. This went on for almost a minute. I finally kept punching in random numbers. I think they hung up, rather than me.

I don't have caller ID, don't know where the call originated. I wondered if they were trying to program my router, or grab data in some way I've not heard about. Could that reach into my router and computer?

I'll probably leave the phone off the hook for a week. And I would have no idea who to report this to. Verizon will send out a tech in about 10 days at $187.50.

1. If you have a cell phone, unplug. Probably they will give up in a few days and focus on new numbers to harass.

2. You answer landline calls if you don't recognize the name or number?

4. You have a landline with Verizon? Get Ooma service. For a few bucks you get better service & free caller ID & a lot more

So much cheaper and better than Verizon & ATT and almost all others.

Are you in 1965, somehow communicating with us in 2024?

I'm under the impression that Caller ID is pretty much automatic in any and all phone services. You need to talk to someone with your server and get caller ID.

It's the best thing ever. I can answer calls from people I actually want to talk to, can ignore everyone else.

And someone who called you and spoke in some foreign language has zero ability to try to program your router or grab any data from your computer. That's not how such things work. Seriously. Learn a bit more about these things.

Hanging up on a call made to your phone is going to need somewhat more than a quick hit of the off button. Hang up the phone and leave it alone for thirty seconds. If the call is still there, hang up again for five minutes. Trust me, they won't still be there.
