Related: About this forumAnyone here an Apple TV guru?
I am pulling what little remains of my hair out. We have had Apple TV (the newest version, I guess) for a few months now. It has worked fine for the most part, but now it isn't working, and it's driving me up the wall.
I have the latest version of iTunes on my Windows 8 PC (I don't think it's a Windows 8 problem because it worked for a while). Over the weekend we tried repeatedly to watch stuff using Apple TV. ATV says it's connecting to my library, but then stops and says I need to make sure Home Sharing is turned on (it is), that I have the latest version of iTunes (I do), etc. I have visited the Apple support forum and have tried EVERYTHING recommended, to no avail. To wit: I have tried setting my IP address to 8.8.8.8. I have turned Home Sharing on and off and on again about 20 times. I have tried resetting ATV. I have tried restoring ATV. I have downloaded ATV updates. I have tried resetting my router. I have tried unplugging my router. I have tried unplugging ATV. I have tried changing the PC power settings so that the display never turns off. I always leave iTunes open. NOTHING WORKS!!!!! This is very aggravating!

(20,886 posts)I've never been able to get the home sharing to work.
I use ATV for Netflix so it hasn't bothered me too much. Although, if I could figure out how to use it, I probably would.

(191 posts)Fortunately we have Netflix as an app on our Sharp TV. Apparently a lot of people on the Apple forum have had the same problem and are waiting for a fix. I think I've tried every suggestion, but nothing works. It's really aggravating because it used to work. I don't know what went wrong. Thanks for replying!

(21,691 posts)Unfortunately, I do not run Windows 8 (we have XP on the gaming box, but use the Macs for Home Sharing).
I'll check when I get home; we've had ATVs since they had hard drives

(2,176 posts)I set up my house one fine, but the one that is in another building, but using the same signal had me pulling my hair out. What I found was that the signal was a little to weak to the one outside of the house. I bought a better router and was able to increase the signal and now we have no problems. Hope this helps.
