On my desk top with OS X El Capitan 10.11.8 I can’t bring up DU. Just says “Forbidden”
Any ideas?

5. Can you access DU with a different browser on the same computer?

Did you recently upgrade, or did Apple upgrade you automatically, to a new version of El Capitan?

Just throwing around some guesses, but if either one is a "yes", you may need to upgrade the browser you are currently using.

6. Doublecheck for typos in the url

Make 100% sure you are going to:

https://democraticunderground.com

If it looks right, I'd erase it and type it in again (in case there's some whitespace or
other invisible character in it).

403 is a generic error by web servers when a URL is not allowed. My guess is that you've
got a typo in the URL you're trying to access and trying to go someplace unintended.

Btw, MacOS does have a list of naughty sites (malware) that it will block without your
actively overriding the warning, but it's a lot more obvious why it's blocking it than a
a simple '403' error.

7. I got the same on my PC. Never seen it before. However, after a few tries I got through.

Did the same thing earlier today.

I rebooted my PC and now seems OK.

To clarify, this is not a 403 error code.

8. download alternate browsers Omniweb, Firefox , Chrome or Epic

Omniweb is the first pro browser for Mac OS X and is still active from the venerable Omni Group.

Omniweb first. Epic last as Epic is not as verified. I use Epic for regular browsing but not financial sites.

10. Playing with the Brave browser for a couple of sites that give Firefox problems. Works great so far.

I went to Firefox last year because the older Safari had issues with too many sites. Like you, I am using an older OS (Sierra 10.12.6) on my 10 year old iMac, so it's best to try other browsers.
