new web browser .

i am looking to replace my ailing web browser seamonkey which is no longer supported .

i goto all the web browsers and all they can come up with the 10 best . i dont want the ten best . i just want a browser . please stop it.any suggestions . no big 3 browsers please . tried flock and others .all kaput. thanks

1. For what platform?

2. On mac I use Safari, Firefox and Opera with no problems at all.

Firefox uses .xpi extensions (Lots of them at the firefox extension site)
You'll recognize them from SeaMonkey. I loved the HTML editor there!

Opera uses basically all chrome extensions (Lots at Opera and Chrome stores)

The two readily support the web's most essential tool, ublock-origin.

I am currently using AdGuard in Safari.

People gripe about browsing problems with DU, and none of these have given me any problems.

On ios, all browsers use the same web rendering engine, WebKit, so they are all essentially the same. (Apple rules)

Edit to add: I installed GhostText on mac safari, and use it with Sublime Text.
As I type this text, it is echoed in SublimeText, and vice versa.
So, I NEVER lose typing, not even when there is a network or DU problem and I have to reload the page.
Sometimes, typing returns to the text box and sometimes, it doesn't!
But it's preserved in SublimeText, even after I submit or update.

That was my biggest problem with DU.

3. Try Aloha...

I bounce back and forth from Safari and Aloha.

Oh yeah, there’s a free and a pro version I’ve used the free for years…

7. I have it on my iPad...

Check the App Store just had it up there. Aloha Browser.
Maybe it’s only for mobile devices right now. I’ve used nothing but an iPad for about 8 years.
Got rid of my G5 tower and associated devices after I retired and didn’t need the computing power like that anymore.
I forget about the difference in OS’s.

9. Since you are an experienced user, I have a Question on iPads

And internet browsing.

I use Safari and Chrome. I’ve noticed that in Safari, I often experience the website refreshing right while I am reading thru comments. It even happens while I’m composing a comment!

My Software is fully up to date. I’m using an iPadPro original 9.7 inch size. Plenty of storage space left.

I have no clue what causes it but it’s annoying as anything. It kicks be back to the main page of the article/news story. I then have to navigate to comments again and try to find where I left off reading. I don’t use ad blockers.

Important to note: it does not happen on all websites and it does not happen here on DU. It originally seemed to only happen on Huffington Post. But it seems to have “spread” to other sites as well like Daily Kos, Mediaite, etc. I’m ready to jump ship to a Chromebook but I love my iPad functionality and just can’t stomach the idea of changing my entire software ecosysytem because of bad web browsing.

Any thoughts?

10. Noticed that also...

Very annoying. All I got is that it’s ads, they’re not ‘static’ anymore they change within the ad and that causes the page to do a quick reload so it looks like the page jumps all over.
I don’t use ad blockers either with Safari, I turned on the free Adblocker with Aloha works great so far. I use the free version of that browser. The worst website for ads that I went to was Raw Story could hardly read the articles Aloha seems to have tamed that.
Also in Safari sometimes use the ‘Reader’ format it calms down the ads sometimes. They are hoping you’ll get fed up with it all and subscribe.

I feel vindicated!

I’m also realizing thru further research that my device might be inherently buggy. Seemed to have started waaaay back in 2017. Lots of complaints. And no resolution from what I can see.

I’ll have to look into that reader option. And Aloha.

12. Finding the reader..

Up in the web address line there’s “aA” click on that and a drop-down menu appears. If there is no Reader option it’s grayed out. If not click on it and only the article comes in with pictures though. Also an option to have the article read to you, Mac’s have had that ability forever.
