I was so prepared for a beaten down, demoralized and sparsely attended meeting, and boy am I glad I was wrong.
There were easily 40-50 people there, not an empty seat in the back of the church and people came energized, scared, and awake.
I was so impressed by the extensive history so many in the group had with the party, holding office etc...
The two downsides i had issues with are 1. "We can't win elections for anything in Fayette County" and 2. "Young people don't do anything to help"
I addressed first comment with the fact that repugs faced that exact dilemma for decades in this very county and surely didn't give up.
The second comment I addressed to hold me accountable first. I'm 58 y/o and other than some door knocking, I was the guy they should be mad at.
We need to welcome and encourage young folks, not browbeat them as they sit quietly in the back of the room.
I loved the energy of the people that spoke up, a woman who worked for the SSA for 40 years said we are in a lot of trouble with what Musk is doing. The goal with SSA and the Postal Service is to wreck them and then privatize them.
I did notice that men and women self segregated and that men did most of the talking. in that sense, all that was missing was the cigars lol.
I left feeling inspired and hopeful that I found a political home. As for next months meeting, Arne said it best. "I'll be back".
