Nice JK quote found in Concord Museum

Noisy Democrat and I went with some other friends to the Concord Museum today to see their annual exhibit of Family Trees, each Christmas tree decorated on the theme of a different children's book. We'd never been to the museum and it was an interesting, well-planned gathering of exhibits exploring Concord's history and significance as a community. The trees were creative and beautiful.

The exhibit, called “Crowdsourcing a Collection,” is the brainchild of museum public relations Director Carol Haines. The title refers to going out into the community of museum and history lovers and asking them to choose an item in the museum’s collection and write a paragraph or two about why they chose it.

Sen. John Kerry chose a small profile image of Margaret Fuller who was an early and fervent advocate for women’s rights.

Noisy Democrat immediately noticed JK's contribution and I copied down his quote. Here it is:

And I'm incredibly proud of them for being vitally involved in the world. Many other advocates for women's rights, including Susan B. Anthony, would often cite Fuller as a source of inspiration. As a husband and a father, continuing Ms. Fuller's fight is important to me. Throughout my 26 years in the U.S. Senate, I have proudly fought to protect and expand women's rights, including a woman's right to choose and right to equal pay for equal work."

Thanks to Senator Kerry for fighting for women's rights throughout his career and I imagine he will use his new position as Secretary of State to work to improve women's lot around the world.

1. Wonderful quote for a wonderful choice

I like that he chose this in a museum where it was probably not an obvious choice. Many politicians speak of women's rights - when meeting with women, but not otherwise. It has always been clear how much respect and admiration in addition to love, he has for his wife and daughters.
