Investors will get more insight into the Feds progress against inflation this week with the release of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for October.
Consumer sentiment will come into focus this week by way of the NFIBs Small Business Optimism Index for September and preliminary results for the University of Michigan's November Surveys of Consumers.
The Federal Reserve has been raising interest rates to cool the economy, which has raised fears of a potential recession. The impact of these efforts on inflation will become clearer this week with Thursdays release of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for October. This key economic data point measures the change in prices for a basket of consumer goods. Despite several interest rate hikes this year, the CPI has stayed above 8% since February.
Also, this weeks release of the NFIB Small Business Optimism Index for October and the University of Michigans Surveys of Consumers preliminary results for November will clarify sentiment among small businesses and consumers. Septembers wholesale trade report and weekly jobless claims round out the economic news for the week.
