Keep your head up

Dear Union Family,

This is not where any of us were hoping to be this week. However you’re feeling right now—disappointed, scared, sad, exhausted or all of the above—Fred and I are right there with you.

What has brought us such hope over the past few days is thinking about how much every single one of you put into this race, and the impact that we made. Whether you were out knocking on doors, jumping on phone banks…you played a role in the largest labor mobilization in American history. This outcome doesn’t change that fact.

Our Labor 2024 program reached 10 million unique voters—more than ever in our history. Across the country and in our battleground states, union voters and households outperformed the electorate in breaking for Vice President Kamala Harris—and in many cases, even outperformed our own efforts in 2020. That is directly because of your hard work.

This result has made it clear: Too many Americans are still feeling economically insecure; we have always, always been the movement that responds to the struggles of working people—and over the next four years, that work will be more important than ever before.

We will keep holding the line for our members. We will keep fighting for our unions. Keep your head up, take some time to heal, and then let’s do what the labor movement has always done—fight.

In solidarity,

Liz and Fred
