LINCOLN More than 100 people who work for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service in Lincoln are set to lose their jobs, and a union representative said more layoffs are likely coming.
ITC Federal, the company that employs a few hundred of the immigration workers at the center at 850 S St. said in a Tuesday letter to the Nebraska Department of Labor that it plans to eliminate about 140 positions by the end of next month.
The company could not be reached for comment, but Dawn Meyer, president of United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America Local 808, the union that represents the workers, said union officials have been told that there are plans to end contract work at the facility by the end of next year, which would mean more than 200 additional workers would lose their jobs as well.
Lincoln is not the only Citizenship and Immigration Service center to see cuts.
