I know a lot of DU and DKos folks post there, just hard to run across them.

(16,513 posts)I agree with one of your commentors at dkos. It looks like the oal is to provide excellent, well funded schools for the elite kids (no doubt mostly white) and starving the public schools of funding, to ensure that all they produce is a mass of semi-literate peons. We already have superb public schools in wealthy districts, and even taking into consideration the fact that poor kids from under privileged communities are at a distinct disadvantage in comparison, at least they have real certified teachers and counsellors trying very hard to help their classes succeed.
It looks like the poor kids will have to be satisfied with TFA "teachers" and at least half of each day in online "learning." What kid is going to be able to sit at a computer for hours unless they manage to hack the system and play online gamed? It's a total setup for failure.

(88,117 posts)Our legislators don't even pretend to care about public education. Heck the Rick Scott Republicans there don't even pretend to care about people anymore.

(38,105 posts)it was this bad. So fast, so soon.
Once these charters got their foot in the door of public funds, we'll never be rid of them. This is a permanent step backward.
And--I ask you--why is it so hard to see where this is going? What this will add up to?

Seriously, any time you get a chance to get in a politician's face, ask when they are going to end this CORRUPT policy.
