(919 posts)As world demand for oil declines, the supply will actually increase since the producers realize that a barrel of oil is likely worth more today than it will be in 5 or 10 years. In a declining demand environment, there is no reason to withhold production. The low cost producers will win in this environment, but the U.S. fracking wells are actually among the highest cost producers in the world. As oil drops below $60 and $50 a barrel, these fracking wells become unprofitable and will turn off, reducing domestic production. That is roughly half of the U.S. oil production.
The U.S. has to switch to EVs and hybrids soon, because $50/barrel is possibly by 2027.

He wins the election, does everything possible to hinder wind and solar
but then starts a war with Iran which pushes oil even higher than it already was. What do countries with little to no oil and gas end up doing???
