Finally got rid of my Gas Mower

The self drive died. Probably could of fixed it with a new cable but instead I used it as an excuse to buy a 60 Volt Toro Recycler Mower. No more gas, spark plugs, oil and noise/ smell.

There were lot's of brand available but somehow buying a mower from a actual mower company felt better than buying one from a battery company.

The only thing better would be to be able to charge it from my solar panels which I don't have yet.

1. I was fooling around with the possibilities of rigging...

a car battery, starter motor, and mower business end.

Endless possibilities of 12V, 24V and 48V motors, or even 120V heavy duty fan motors.

But, then I sold the house.

3. I have 2 acres to mow.

I only mow the back about 3 times a year and the front 5 times. I have about 30ft surrounding 3 sides that I don't mow. I have a sign on one side by the road that says "butterfly habitat, no mowing". I've had folks stop and ask where I got it. I tell them the sign shop down the street made it for me. It wasn't very expensive and I had 3 of them made.

5. Love the sign idea

My brother who is totally off the grid hardly mows any of his property much to his neighbors chagrin. That being said he lives in Maine and his neighbors house isn't very close to his at all. He planted a field of Wildflowers instead of a huge lawn. I bet the sign would be cool.

7. I'm really bad. I got the idea

from a State Park I use to live by. They had big plots of unmowed grass with those signs and I thought..hell they just don't want to mow it.

4. I have too much to mow without using an IC mower.

That said, 6 years ago I bought 3 Stihl battery powered devices a weed wacker, chain saw and small mower. They have made my yard work much more pleasant. 2 cycle saws and grass trimmers tend to gum up the carboraters if not used regularly and pollute worse than 4 cycle engines plus they sound like a herd of pregnant mosquitoes.

6. They make 80 volt mowers now.

You buy and extra battery and you can mow all day long. The batteries take 30 min to charge. Kill one use the next. My property is small and the 60v Toro isn't close to being drained by the time I'm finished.

8. E batteries are improving all of the time.

Hydrogen mowers would be great for larger yards and road sides. Takes larger fuel tanks, but lighter. Now they just need to produce it with solar or wind.

11. Battery mower and trimmer

I got an 80v battery powered mower, looking for simplicity. I have a fairly small lawn and it takes two batteries to do the whole thing. I bought a string trimmer that uses the same batteries. They recharge in about 40 minutes, so as a previous poster suggested, you can recharge one battery while you use the other one. In the spring I sharpen the blade and that's about it. Push the button and it runs. Probably psychological, but I seem less tired when I'm done mowing because of the lower noise level.

I have a really small lot and I've been looking at the Greenworks models.
