Business energy saving tips

- Maximize natural light and turn off unnecessary office lights.
- Turn off computers, monitors, printers and copiers during non-business hours.
- Install plug load controllers in cubicles to control multiple loads like monitors, task lights and fans. These devises use a motion sensor that is incorporated with a plug load surge suppressor. Inactive equipment can be shut down when the cubicle is unoccupied.
- Educate and encourage employees to be energy-conscious and to offer ideas about how energy can be saved. Employee buy-in and involvement can make or break your company's efforts to conserve energy.

of little things like: turn off the monitors, the shredder for crying out loud!, the break room light, the lights in rooms that aren't being used, etc.

I once put a stickie on the shredder for two reasons. 1. It seemed dangerous to me to leave it on when not in use which is ALL day except for the rare time someone is shredding. I bent over once to get to the back of the computer and that's when I noticed the shredder was on and I have long hair. 2. Power wasted by being on. The others said I was being controlling with my note.

If you are using a mouse that you plug into a USB, unplug it at the end of the day and the damn batteries will last longer!

Power strip. Use it to turn things on and off. It's pure laziness/lack of thought to leave everything on.

I'm not there every day or I'd turn it all off myself!

Close the blinds in the afternoon when the sun starts to beat on the windows. Even better, don't open them on clear days. This makes a HUGE difference in the way the space heats up or not. DO NOT ask me to turn the air on in February when you can close the blinds.

Ok, I think I have used up my vent quota for the day.

The thing that gets me going most is when people leave the light and fan on in the bathroom when no one is there. I have made some progress, but since I have no authority where I work, I have decided that if the people paying the bills don't care, I shouldn't either. (I still care, but I can't do more---I care because of the waste.)

If I had authority, people would know that they had better not be caught.
