Fake Meats, Finally, Taste Like Chicken
Last May, Whole Foods recalled two types of curried chicken salad that had been sold in some of its stores in the Northeast.
The retailers kitchens had accidentally confused a batch of chickn salad made with a plant protein substitute with one made from real chicken, and reversed the labels.
Consumers buying the version labeled as having been made from actual chicken were instead eating vegetarian chicken salad and thus inadvertently were exposed to soy and eggs, allergens that must be identified on labels under federal regulations.
None of the customers apparently noticed the difference, said Ethan Brown, founder and chief executive of Beyond Meat, which made the substitute in the product that was recalled.

(113,131 posts)which has always had an off flavor to me and a mushy texture. Quorn tastes more like chicken than chicken does.
I wish they'd make a breakfast sausage substitute. I liked Morningstar Farms' sausage but their GMO soy gives me the creeps.

(9,992 posts)I do think that with veg'ism becoming more popular and "trendy" we long-timers will benefit with expanded choices (both vegetarian and vegan) in the coming years. In the meantime, try writing Quorn. They actually responded when I did.
