Syria was part of the "Arab Spring" that included many Arab countries in 2011

but that eventually died.

At some point Obama was going to intervene, setting ‘a red line” but never did.

I think that one of the problems was that a there were several groups of protesters and we were not interested in helping ISIS or a group like the Muslim Brotherhood that won in Egypt and eventually were thrown by the current strong man Sisi.
