Illegal West Bank outpost of Sde Yonatan evacuated and demolished, 10 activists detained

The illegal outpost of Sde Yonatan in the West Bank was evacuated and demolished by Border Police and Civil Administration forces, the second such demolition of an illegal outpost in the territory in less than 48 hours.

A rudimentary residential building and a goat pen were destroyed by the Civil Administration forces during the operation, reports say.

Settler activists state that the Border Police officers were violent when evacuating the residents of the outpost, punching and kicking the residents and throwing them to the ground. Three people were injured during the incident, the activists say.

A Magen David Adom ambulance was called to the area but was prevented from reaching the outpost, the activists allege. Paramedics from United Hatzalah also arrived at the scene to treat one person who was lightly injured during the incident and needed stitches on his hand.

Activists say that the area was declared a closed military zone before the evacuation began and phones belonging to the residents and activists at the site were confiscated.

Ten people were detained at the site during the enforcement operation, three of whom were taken to the local police station. The other seven were released after the demolition had been completed.

The outpost, close to the settlement of Michmash northeast of Jerusalem, was built on private Palestinian land, the Civil Administration says.

It has been built and demolished several times in the last two years and was most recently reestablished shortly after the beginning of the current war with Hamas.

The Border Police declined to comment on the incident.

the organizations that control the Palestinians want to destroy Israel. The land which they claim is their right is land occupied by Israel. That is why I think the West Bank should be controlled by the UN.

You should limit your advice to something practical. Don't propose that the Lord come down and settle things. That won't help. Neither will it help when you make a proposal that both sides have firmly rejected.

It is a lot less than a baby step and won't mollify any Palestinian. It is like putting someone on death row for a crime he didn't commit, and then giving him crackers.

I'll state it blunt and flat.

There's a lot I would have cared about on October 6 that I don't now.

Not at all.

Whether it mollifies Arab Palestinians doesn't matter, and whether it will or won't doesn't concern me. It is purely a question of Israel abiding by its obligations as an occupying power. I think it should. That's all.

That's the problem. People like you are no longer the same. I myself would prefer death over losing my soul. So yes, Hamas had two types of victims. Some of these victims merely died.

on this : " Whether it mollifies Arab Palestinians doesn't matter, and whether it will or won't doesn't concern me. It is purely a question of Israel abiding by its obligations as an occupying power. "....... " on October 6 " .

The Israeli Left is a small minority who have always campaigned against the occupation and for a Two State Solution which we think is our only chance for Peace .....but on October 7th everything changed.

Now the average Israeli is beginning to understand that there is a price to pay for ignoring the injustices towards the Palestinians living in the Wild West Bank .

Why ?........because now all of us are suffering from this governments policy .

See :

The West Bank Occupation Outweighed Israel's Defense of the Gaza Border on the Eve of October 7

The Israeli military's principal aim was defending the settlements in the West Bank – that is, maintaining the occupation and enforcing it on the Palestinians. The enemy understood quite well what an opportunity had fallen into its lap

Reading the numbers is physically painful, but it's both wrong and impossible to ignore them.

On October 7, the Israel Defense Forces had 400 combat soldiers and a dozen tanks stationed on the border of the Gaza Strip facing thousands of Hamas fighters. A larger force, four or five battalions, was deployed on the Lebanese border, but it was also numerically inferior to Hezbollah (Amos Harel, Haaretz, February 16).

Yet the force stationed in the West Bank on that day was much larger, 21 or 22 battalions. It was even bolstered at the last minute with two companies from the Southern Command's reserve due to tensions over the sukkah that MK Tzvi Succot built in Hawara.

You don't have to be the IDF chief of staff or head of the army's Operations Directorate to understand that defending the borders was a secondary mission for the army on the eve of the war. The military's principal aim was defending the settlements in the West Bank – that is, maintaining the occupation and enforcing it on the Palestinians.

The occupation was allotted a force five times larger than the one in the north and 10 times larger than the one in the south. And the relative strength of these forces reflected the national order of priorities. The settlements came first, and communities in the Galilee and along the Gaza border barely made it into last place.

This massive diversion of forces to the West Bank began in March 2022, under the "government of change" led by Naftali Bennett, which was worried by a wave of terror attacks that had reached Tel Aviv and Hadera. It responded by doubling forces in the West Bank and along the "seam line" between Israel and that territory, from 15 battalions to 28 or 29 (an operation the IDF dubbed Break the Wave). This force was later thinned out a bit, after the attacks in Israel died down.

At the end of that year, Benjamin Netanyahu returned to power at the head of a fully right-wing government. The government's guidelines declared that the Jewish people had exclusive rights to "the entirety of the Land of Israel," and then Netanyahu appointed Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir to key posts. From then on, it was clear that protecting the settlements was the supreme military mission.

In retrospect, it's clear that the army's enslavement to the protection of the settlements and the fact that the north and south had been emptied of combat troops were among the main causes of the catastrophe on October 7. The enemy understood quite well what an opportunity had fallen into its lap.

See : Unmatched Surge in Settlement Activity in the West Bank Since the Onset of the Gaza War

Peace Now: “The three months of war in Gaza are being exploited by settlers to establish facts on the ground and effectively take control of extensive areas in Area C. Settlers decide where to build roads and outposts continuously, disregarding the legal status of the land. They persist in constructing outposts on private Palestinian lands, defining open areas, and restricting Palestinian movement in the West Bank. The permissive military and political environment allow the reckless construction and land seizure almost unchecked, with minimal adherence to the law. The result is not only physical harm to Palestinians and their lands but also a significant political shift in the West Bank. The unchecked rampage of the settlers must be stopped now.”

President Biden knows exactly what the point is .......I can only hope that his support for us will not cause him to loose to Trump because if Bibi manages to survive this , which I seriously doubt, and Trump replaces Biden then God help us all .

At present Hamas is the force put in the field by Palestinian resistance. To support Palestinian resistance is to support Hamas. To approve of what Hamas did, to any degree, is to partake of it, and accept its blood upon your head. I agree the settlers are a bad lot, I would not blink if they were turned out of their homes tomorrow by a civilized armed force and set walking west, and would not mind a club or three being employed to hurry them along.

But I don't care, not anymore. My position has always been there is a measure of justice to the claims of either side, and that people of sound mind and good heart can disagree on it.

That went away on October 7, and put bluntly, it departed in response to the adulation and applause with which that day's atrocities were greeted, among Arab Palestinians, the Islamic world in general, and certain elements of the Western left. It is not so much that I support Israel now in greater measure, but that my disgust with her enemies now has no bottom.

Over 1000 People at Peace Now’s Conference: There is a Solution: A Political Vision for the Day After the War
28.12.23

Last Friday, December 22nd, marked a crucial event as Peace Now hosted a much-needed conference to discuss the aftermath of the war and the essential solutions for a peaceful future for both Israelis and Palestinians. The substantial support and participation made it a momentous occasion, with over 1000 attendees, signifying a critical event for the Israeli left and our Peace Camp.

Following the tragic events of October 7th and two and a half months of the Gaza War, the conference served as a beacon of hope and resilience. It demonstrated that many Israelis believe that only a political horizon based on the two-state solution will provide the necessary security and peace for the people, fostering a brighter future for Israelis and Palestinians. The significant crowd and the great interest in the event reaffirm that the Peace Camp is back in the fight for the country and its people.

Throughout the conference, a unified message echoed: Peace will prevail, and there is no other choice but a political horizon and a two-state solution. The discussions emphasized that this is the only path that will provide the peace and security needed and deserved by all.
