Hamas rejects any hostage deal that doesn't end war, despite mediators' efforts

Hamas on Thursday rejected any proposal for a temporary halt to more than a year of fighting in Gaza and reiterated its insistence on a lasting ceasefire, as American, Egyptian, and Qatari mediators tried to coax the Palestinian terror group back to the negotiating table.

“The idea of a temporary pause in the war, only to resume aggression later, is something we have already expressed our position on. Hamas supports a permanent end to the war, not a temporary one,” senior Hamas official Taher al-Nunu told AFP.

Mediators seeking to broker a Gaza ceasefire were expected to present Hamas with a proposal for a truce of less than a month, a source with knowledge of the talks told AFP on Wednesday.

The proposal was discussed during meetings in Doha between Mossad head David Barnea, CIA Director Bill Burns, and Qatar’s prime minister, which concluded on Monday, the source said on condition of anonymity because of the talks’ sensitivity.

They started the war. They took the hostages. Now they are not releasing the hostages until the war they started ends.

And they are not about to end the war they started. But... land grab.

Didn't they consider the consequences of starting the war and taking hostages before they did it? They now demand that the victims of their aggression end the war they started without releasing hostages they took, before they even consider negotiating.

Ending wars comes after agreements are reached. Agreements come only after negotiations are concluded. Hamas will not begin negotiating unless an agreement precedes the negotiation. How batshit ridiculous is this?

Doesn't sound like an expression of willingness to negotiate anything. What in the world made you think it was?

They want the end of war as a PRECONDITION for negotiations!

What is your problem? Can't you read what Hamas is saying? It is not ME saying this, it is Hamas. You know, the Hamas you pretend will negotiate the end of war rather than demand the end of war as a point at which they may begin negotiations.

Or not.

Listen, do you want to be taken seriously or not?

Most of the hostages were released as part of a short-lived hostage-and-ceasefire deal agreed between Hamas and Israel that lasted November 24 to December 1..

History shows you are incorrect and I could care less if you, who says they have evidence for something but wont provide it, take me seriously or not.

So you don't want to be taken seriously. You trust the people who started the war and took the hostages.

Good night. And make sure you vote for Harris tomorrow regardless of how you voted four years ago.

when they did so just last year. I also didn't in any way say that I trusted hamas at all but you have to make up positions that I have never taken to justify whatever you believe. I am not going to vote tomorrow as I already voted by mail. It was of course for Harris/Walz just as my vote 4 years ago was for Biden/Harris. I don't understand why you would attempt to attack me politically when your argument is shown to be false as I have been on here long enough to verify my Dem creds unless maybe your fee fee's were hurt and you just wanted to lash out emotionally. Hope you feel better.
Keep on keeponing.

13. Nonsensical spin - both sides are negotiating the end of the war

The real disagreement is entirely on whether or not Hamas continues to rule in Gaza when the war is over.

Hamas "stop killing us, leave our country, and we stay in charge - and we'll give what's left of the hostages back"

Israel - "Give us the hostages back and we'll stop killing you - but you're done as the government of Gaza"

I actually seen the opposite. Feel free to share some links showing that they will stop.

Hanegbi’s comments came during a meeting with the families of the Israeli hostages. He said that a “stage one” deal for the return of hostages, classified under humanitarian grounds, could be reached soon, according to broadcaster Channel 12 and the daily Times of Israel.

However, Hanegbi reportedly told the families: "This government will not take a decision to stop the war for the return of all the hostages."
