Top Democratic officials who worked on the partys still-secret autopsy of the 2024 election concluded that Kamala Harris lost significant support because of the Biden administrations approach to the war in Gaza, Axios reports.
The Democratic National Committees research on what went wrong in 2024 has been under lock and key since party leaders decided last year to hide it from the public a reflection of how explosively it could resonate within the party and beyond.

(19,037 posts)Thank goodness we have these genius consultants making these post mortem reports. Truly, our party is saved!
Kamala and the Dems raised record funds for these nonsense consultants that did absolutely nothing to help us. A little common sense can go a long way.

(1,046 posts)Its disappointing that helping BiBi was more important than stopping fascism in the USA. This type of thing will end up a major issue in the next primary. I figured AIPAC being absolute poison was a major reason they werent releasing the report.

You can argue methodology - (and many, including self, will listen) - but voting rolls do need to be cleaned up occasionally. They just do. And the remedy for that - is plenty of notice to voters ahead of elections. Which (my observation says) - is mostly being done.

(15,281 posts)No specifics, no direction, no invitation toward discussion. One could say almost deliberately opaque. So, no - it engendered neither the comprehension, nor inclination or motivation for response ... (other than the one it received)

(9,898 posts)Harris said in her book that President Biden's unpopularity, which she argued was partly because of "his perceived blank check" to Netanyahu, harmed her in 2024.
Harris wrote that she privately "pleaded" with Biden to show more empathy for civilians in Gaza. But during her campaign, she declined to publicly break with him over Israel.

It appears that Harris was one of those.
People don't owe us their votes, they have to be earned. They didn't even give them a spot at the convention to speak. At the time I argued that it would hurt us and it appears it did.

(4,109 posts)To the point where they can't drag themselves to the voting booth because they are disgusted and dismayed. Or maybe it's the thought of stepping over the tens of thousands of Palestinian bodies on the way to the poll that had them spooked.
I hope the lesson has been learned but at what cost?
In any case, demonizing and shaming these voters by calling them pathetic is not the way to go. But I guess voter-blaming is easier than looking at the bigger picture. That's painful. I do hope the DNC and others are doing some self-reflecting but the secrecy thing does not give me much hope.

(4,109 posts)Your idea of accountability is only for the big bad...voters? Whom you like to insult and demean.
It would be funny if it were not so sad.

(2,231 posts)Voters who sat out the election or voted for Trump because of Gaza helped bring about the nightmare this country and much of the world are experiencing. To deny that is sophistry.

(4,109 posts)A fatal mistake imho. I thought so at the time and moaned and groaned about it.
Empathy is great. Absolutely. And Kamala showed empathy.
But I think she miscalculated in thinking that empathy was enough. It was not. People wanted to see a change in policy. In fact they wanted to see ANYTHING being done to provide some relief to the suffering in Gaza and stop the SLAUGHTER. They also wanted hope that the party would go in a different direction on Gaza under Kamala.
Instead they heard a re-commitment to defend Israel and it's "right to defend itself" (code for a carte blanche and the status quo). For many voters, that was just the last straw.
