Now that the Final Pope is about to be named...

... may we really lean something that has always just been "Creative Speculation"?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy_of_the_Popes

^snips^

The Prophecy of the Popes, attributed to Saint Malachy, is a list of 112 short phrases in Latin. They purport to describe each of the Roman Catholic popes (along with a few anti-popes), beginning with Pope Celestine II (elected in 1143) and concluding with current pope Benedict XVI's successor, a pope described in the prophecy as "Peter the Roman", whose pontificate will end in the destruction of the city of Rome.

The prophecy was first published in 1595 by Arnold de Wyon, a Benedictine historian, as part of his book Lignum Vitæ. Wyon attributed the list to Saint Malachy, the 12th‑century bishop of Armagh in Ireland. According to the traditional account, in 1139, Malachy was summoned to Rome by Pope Innocent II. While in Rome, Malachy purportedly experienced a vision of future popes, which he recorded as a sequence of cryptic phrases. This manuscript was then deposited in the Roman Archive, and thereafter forgotten about until its rediscovery in 1590.

Interpretation of the mottos has generally relied on finding correspondences between the mottos and the popes' birthplaces, their personal arms, and the events of their pontificates. For example, the first motto, Ex castro Tiberis (From a castle on the Tiber), fits Pope Celestine II's birthplace in Città di Castello, on the Tiber.

OK, I don't really buy into it but it is fun to look into it anyways.

The Prophecy of the Popes a forgery and doesn't believe in it either.

What's there to discuss about it? I have no idea. Why don't you start?

connection between an ET Jesus and the Papal Prophesies. Well, except that both are woo.

Here's the book blurb that accompanied the video: (emphasis mine)

Christians will not immediately need to renounce their faith in God “simply on
the basis of the reception of
(this) new, unexpected information of a religious
character from extraterrestrial civilizations.”
However, once the “religious
content”
originating from outside the earth “has been verified” they will have
to conduct“a re-reading (of the Gospel) inclusive of the new data…”

Pontificia Università della Santa Croce in Rome [Connected With Opus Dei], Father Giuseppe Tanzella-Nitti

Okay, what did Father Giuseppe Tanzella-Nitti really say? I marked in bold the phrases attributed to him.

BOOM!! Score one more for ol' Malachy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Turkson

Peter Cardinal Turkson, current president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace

I was a skeptic about Malachy until five minutes ago when I read about Cardinal Peter Turkson. Most of Malachy's "predictions" are bullshit. He'll call one pope "the pope of the white feather" or some obscure shit, and then researchers will find that the guy is related to some family with a dove in its family crest. Whatever.

But this? How else could he nail it this close? Unless, of course, you count all the other popes name Piero before they got elevated?

I'll still put my money on their being lots more popes in the centuries to come. But still, quite a cool coinky-dink.

Several HUGE oil fields right off the coast, which could yield nearly 2 *billion* barrels of oil and gas...

What, if anything, this has to do with his selection is really unknown to me.. may not be anything at all...

One last caveat: the predictions of St Malachy are bullshit, just like every other prophesy of the end times.
