A lot of firsts today

Not the least being my first post in LGBT.
Background: I came out as trans a couple months ago to a supportive wife and a close group of supportive friends. This weekend was Pride in Phoenix (we have it in October to avoid 120 degree weather).

It was my first Pride, my first time in an explicitly queer space, my first time in full makeup, my first time in a skirt and tights in public, and my first time using the correct bathroom.
And best of all, we ran into an acquaintance whom I was chatting online with earlier this morning, and she didn’t recognize me in girlmode!

Just had to share because I was terrified and it went so much better than expected!

I’ve read so many horror stories about it breaking up marriages, and stories about kids getting disowned. And lord knows shit could get real in a few weeks (I don’t think it will, that was part why I came out when I did).
But my experiences have been overwhelmingly positive - although mine and my wife’s extended families have been noticeably silent.

At the end a friend gave me a hug and said,”Thanks for trusting me enough to finally introduce me to yourself.”

Congratulations, AZSkiffyGeek. Happy Pride, you are living and being who you truly are. You deserve to be very proud, feel affirmed and loved as you embrace your authentic life. I stand with you, as an ally. I have a grandchild who came out as trans, at the age of 16. I rally behind them and the whole LGBTQA+ community for the secure freedom to be who they are. Blessings, to you.
