Out of curiosity, has anyone here given serious consideration about making contingency plans to relocate to another country, if our lives become threatened?

(274 posts)We did renew our passports just before the orange menace took office. Started thinking an escape plan may be needed at some point. Canada, Costa Rica, and Mexico seem worth thinking about.

They've discussed Canada but are also 23 and broke.
So they're contingency plan is actually to come back out here to California and stay with me make some extra money over the summer if possible and then we're all going to go homestead in the wilderness... Of Northern California.

(5,523 posts)Where to go? Not sure. I was thinking of retiring in France, but the orange anus is probably going to eff that up with SS payments being made difficult for people abroad. Having residency status would mean they would know where you are because of your taxes that you would have to file and a foreign bank acct. So I would be forced to not be a resident which means you can only stay somewhere for a limited time. If they gut SS it will limit my income. If that goes out the window anyway and it becomes a danger, then I may well leave anyway and hope for the best.
Yet my first jump is from TN to CA
I would probably head to Canada if necessary.

(7,539 posts)Too broke and too old to even consider it anyway.
If things come to that, I hope I can take a few with me. That is the best I can hope for.
