Last Thursday, Lindy West (writer at Jezebel) launched the Tumblr called “I Believe You | It’s Not Your Fault.” -- because "there are huge numbers of young women who never hear about these concepts, who don’t have the vocabulary for what’s happening to them."
Excerpt: "The idea is to be a really candid safe, space for people to talk about things that have happened to them and women who have been through those things to respond. We’ve gotten a lot of that: women wanting to know that they’re not alone. There’s so much pressure to not tell, especially if it’s a family member who has abused you, or someone that you love, despite the abuse. And people don’t want to ruin their family. So that’s been really, really hard to read but really powerful."
A much-needed and powerful site: http://ibelieveyouitsnotyourfault.tumblr.com/

(26,883 posts)Too many girls and women have no one to talk with. No one should go through an abusive episode alone.

(171 posts)and not just for females, but for victims of abuse of all genders. Our young people often don't have the vocabulary or context to help them identify the issue and stand up for themselves. This website I believe is to stand up with them and for them.

(30,884 posts)I've known several families where the "teller" enabled three generations of women and men to tell, finally.
I also know too many adults who didn't want to report sexual abuse by intimate partners and later ended up in the hospital or morgue.
To hell with rapists and abusers.
