US/Canada: Measles Cases in Texas, Manitoba

At least
four cases of measles, including two involving school-aged children, have been reported in southeast Texas in less than two weeks, putting state health agencies on alert as other counties have also reported cases in Gaines, Harris, and Lubbock.
For some communities, this is the first case of measles in more than 20 years.
About
1 in 5 unvaccinated people in the US who get measles will be hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Manitoba provincial public health officials are warning citizens of possible exposure to measles. Officials say there have been five confirmed cases of measles in southern Manitoba, all connected to an outbreak in Ontario. All of the affected individuals are from the same household and had recently travelled to Ontario. They have all been asked to isolate at home.
81 cases of measles have been reported in Ontario in 2024 and 2025.
Measles is a highly contagious airborne disease. General symptoms may include fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes, and a full-body rash. This disease can cause serious health consequences and even death, especially for young and unvaccinated children. Up to
three of every
1,000 children who become infected with measles may die from respiratory and neurologic complications. Vaccinations and herd immunity are the key to stopping the spread of measles.
