Six months since Iowa implemented one of the strictest abortion bans in the nation, new data shows hundreds of Iowans are using abortion access funds to receive the procedure in other states.

New estimates collected from regional abortion access funds show 625 Iowans have received funding and practical support from their organizations to obtain abortions out of state in 2024, the same year Iowa implemented a six-week abortion ban.

In addition to the cost of the procedure, those extra expenses can include airfare, hotels and child care. That's all on top of lost wages from missing multiple days of work, she said.

As a result, an abortion that would have cost $750 in-state can now cost some individuals as much as $2,000, Lenz said.

"What this law is doing is drastically increasing the cost of accessing abortion," she said. "Then, it puts more financial burden on the states around us, so we haven’t really solved a problem in Iowa. We’ve created a crisis for the Midwest."

Thanks for the crisis and higher costs for women, who already have never overcome the gender pay gap. That's what I mean by assholes. I thought the only thing the GOP cared about is money. But I was wrong. The GOP cares more about controlling women. Costs be damned.
