Note that a minimum of 97% population coverage is necessary to prevent outbreaks with measles because of its intense infectiousness. Idaho is the lowest but note how few states approach 97%. Note the coverage (again, school entry, but it is a leading indicator) for the other vaccine-preventable diseases, including polio. Now look at the last column, which indicates the percentage of kids receiving exemptions, which can be medical, but more likely philosophical or religious. The footnotes by state include which type of exemption is allowed. Ironically, some of the states with the least exemptions and which disallow religious or philosophical exemptions include not only NY and a few others but also the likes of Mississippi and West Virginia. Many states that are minimally restrictive on these exemptions--fully allowing a "philosophical" objection only--date back decades when it was more liberals that refused over what were then considered "healthy lifestyle' choices. Today, those numbers are overwhelmed in many states by conservative objectors who object to governmental "requirements" of any kind--especially prevalent after COVID... Add to that the continuous efforts of anti-vaxxer individuals and groups and it has exploded. Thank you, RFK JR--but he is certainly not the only one.
So, any unaware of this before and are now becoming informed about how damned vulnerable we are to further and future outbreaks, you might want to study this. Most people have ignored the laws and how they are implemented in their states--including who can receive an exemption and for what reason (purely "philosophical" being the one of most concern) might want to take note now. It can be changed, but it requires lobbying your state health department and, more importantly, your state legislature to do so.
Bobby, the uneducated, unqualified BOOB, is determined to take us back nearly 70 years to a time when all of these diseases were rampant. If you are near a very old cemetery a look at the oldest gravestones that obviously reflect children can be quite revealing. In the decades past the 1918 Spanish flu, a lot of children died of measles, mumps, rubella, polio, diphtheria, pertussis and seasonal flu--and the years on their gravestones reflect the history of outbreaks...
Yeah, attacks on vaccinations are but one piece of the atrocities this administration is inflicting on us all, but we have to pay attention to them as well.
