Amazon Prime - HBO, HBOMax question
Last edited Fri Dec 4, 2020, 04:58 PM - Edit history (1)
I subscribe to HBO within Prime, but just realized that it does not include HBOMax automatically, that (apparently) you must download the HBOMax app separately and sign in using your Amazon id (stupid! why??)
First, is this correct?
Second, upon doing so, after signing in, it returns me to their main page, but when I try to watch a selection, it tells me I need to register or sign in! IOW, it is not holding onto the credentials, or something.
WTF? Help?
ETA: it's working now, just took awhile for the app and amazon to communicate

Note: the HBO Max app is not yet available on Roku. It is not available on my LG Smart TV. I am able to access it on my Mac devices and thru Xbox.

(7,906 posts)I did install the app and signed in. But after signing in, it still keeps kicking me back to the signin prompt.

(15,805 posts)Once I downloaded the HMO MAX app, like you, I could not get it to sign in. I finally gave up in frustration.
Here's what happened next. The following day I was back at it and I got signed in on the first try. I'm suspecting that HMO MAX is slow to sync with Amazon. It can't seem to match my HMO account until it completes adding my new HMO MAX, evidently after some unknown amount of time it finally can link both parts.
Amazon really needs to streamline this process.
Adding:
Under the section for providers you have to scroll down to find Prime Video. I'm a cord cutter so I have no provider and this also confused me.

How much more is it on top of the Prime fee?

(4,208 posts)But I never subscribe to other streaming services from within Amazon Prime. I subscribe to each service independently and load their separate apps -- with separate sign-ins -- on my streaming box. It's my understanding that if you travel internationally (and my little bit of international travel has borne this out), you can still access separate streaming services but not those you subscribe to you through Amazon. There are ZERO cost savings if you subscribe through Amazon. The costs are exactly the same.
