I used to LOVE "The Walking Dead" and "Fear the Walking Dead"... but now, I have no interest. Is it just me, or does anyone else feel the same way?
I started to lose interest around the same time that Rick and "Coral" were written out of the show. I don't know if their departures is part of the reason I feel this way... but it could just be coincidental timing.
Did the writing change? Or am I just so weary of being a part of this real-life Covid-dystopian world, that a zombie-dystopian "escape" has no interest to me?
Or it's possible that after 10 seasons and 152 episodes, the novelty has worn off... it's a bit long in the tooth and my attention-span isn't what it used to be.
Maybe (for me) it's just exhausting to see our heroes suffer defeat-after-defeat and loss-after-loss. (My husband still watches, but our "date night" weekends with zombies and microwave popcorn have fallen by the wayside.)

Michonne and Maggie and Carol are my favorite characters.

(21,320 posts)not as long as you, i think.
My disinterest was sparked by the realization that, deep down on a subconscious level, these shows were really about "the other"...mindless hordes taking our way of living away, the alien, those that look like kinda us, but...
When I had those thoughts, I just completely lost interest.

(42,862 posts)... and your comments remind me of a theme that was discussed in one of the after-show episodes. The host and guests were pondering whether the viewers would see Rick's gang as the "bad guys" if the show had been presented from the viewpoint of the "Saviors".

(6,178 posts)and in survivalist mode. All the MacGyvery hacks, and learning to live with the Dead. Particularly, evolving forms of government, trying to be "fair, while surviving. That part fascinated me.
Once it got mired in wars between the tribes, I lost interest, particularly the early episodes with Negan when it took a nihilistic turn. I had to ask myself why I was allowing that energy into my living room, and into my head.

(42,862 posts)I think I stuck with it way too long. (But, while checking wikipedia to find out the total number of seasons, 10, I read that it had been renewed for an 11th season.)

(13,909 posts)The show simply became too repetitive and depressing with absolutely no hope for the characters in the future and no answers or explanations for how the whole mess started. From what I hear, things have only gotten worse with the show since I stopped watching it.

(1,220 posts)But I wanted to see how the show handled Negan, so I stuck around for a bit without much enthusiasm. Turns out that TV Negan is monumentally boring, and I just quit watching.

(15,058 posts)Even before the Glen miracle, I was often thinking to myself, "Why am I still watching this crap?!"
But I wanted to at least see Negan make his appearance. I was personally hoping for a physically large and funny actor like Patrick Warburton (Puddy on Seinfeld), but he was surely too much of a big-name actor for that show.
I didn't last long at all after Negan's initial appearance, and I refuse to watch any reruns too. My interest level is truly zero.

(1,104 posts)All the best characters are dead, and I had no interest in the newer ones. It jumped the shark in my opinion--and I had been a fan of the comic before the show began.

(106,574 posts)interesting because of the appearances of those very few fan favorites still on the show.
That said, whoever decided "TWD: World Beyond" or whatever they called it was a good idea, should never work in tv or film again. Uggh. Are there not enough teen angst movies/shows out there already? I could never imagine something so bad--overwhelmingly apparent in the pilot episode.
As to TWD, only one season remains, so perhaps it is somewhat enticing for their long-time viewers to see how they end it. And, Daryl and Carol (& Maggie) are still on the show and Jeffrey Dean Morgan is always interesting onscreen. So... (I do root for 'Dog', though)

(10,403 posts)I stopped watching TWD right after season 8 ended. I got tired of the story and killing off Carl was beyond stupid. I wasn't invested in it heavily after Glenn was killed.
FTWD? I barely got past season 1 and lost interest quick.
Personally I can't wait for The Last of Us adaption. Pedro Pascal is gonna be a freaking amazing Joel.

But I can tolerate zombie monsters (if it doesn't cross-over too much. --- I do like a good ghost story and B-movie Vincent Price style of horror movie: the kind that makes your skin crawl and hair stands on end. Edgar Allen Poe and Penny Dreadful also are favorites.

(16,526 posts)the premise seemed interesting at first. But I think they moved too quickly and it just became another version of the Walking Dead. My husband watched TWD all along but he lost interest too so I don't think he's watched all of it.
