Borgen, Borgen, Borgen! Absolutely the best drama I have
seen in many years. One episode left to watch (saving). Season 4 out 2022. Danish series ( 3 seasons) English dub.
We have talked of it here but need to reiterate
About Denmark's government, politics, culture, media, policies, mixed with sex and human relationships. If that sounds good, check it out.
IMHO.. 10 out if 10

(121,238 posts)that it will be back next year. The depiction of the intricacies and political scheming of a parliamentary system were fascinating, and there are some really interesting characters. Highly recommended!

(42,770 posts)quite get how the PM is selected/elected. Or how their media works. News kept saying "if THEY win the election".

(38,601 posts)(Player was cheap, like $30, so no regrets.) What a great series.
That purchase let me buy other foreign series such as The Legacy (really good) and the original versions of The Killing and The Bridge (super duper).
Excellent.

(38,601 posts)SYNOPSIS: The Legacy is a character-driven drama series about what it means to be a family in a day and age where the classical family patterns have undergone radical change.
Adult children return home when their renowned artist mother dies and all these secrets come out. Really well done.

(38,601 posts)As noted, I bought the series and a special DVD player to watch it.
Try searching for that original title and see if anyone is streaming it. Good luck!
If its not on now, it will be at some point... somewhere.

(41,381 posts)The series is now coming back after many years. I hope there will be numerous new seasons.
If you like foreign television check out MHz Choice. They have some excellent programs. The 8 seasons of the French series Spiral is one of the best cop series I have ever watched. You will learn a great deal about the nuances of the French legal system. The writing is incredibly deep.
Ocelot II
(121,238 posts)It's a political thriller like Borgen but much darker and scarier. Check it out.

(41,381 posts)The programming is suburb. There are so many great shows from all over Europe. It is $7.99 a month. I think it is worth every cent.
I think it is only with subtitles.
Tracer
(2,769 posts)Except for the last season (#8), then I had to fork over $7.99 or something to mHz to see it.
Absolutely my favorite streaming show.

(1,190 posts)And then I finally broke down and purchased the series on DVD a couple years ago. Of course I had to purchase a DVD player that would play multi region DVDs. But it was worth it. Now I have the series and can watch it again and again and again. And I will. It is that good.

(42,770 posts)Danish is a language, right, DUH.
English subtitles? I know, I am not a purist...but I like the dubbing vs. subtitles. I can't read subtitles and hear/interpret what
people are saying at the same time. Too distracting for my brain
Purrfessor
(1,190 posts)I prefer watching shows in their original language. But yes it is Danish. There are many good foreign language series. The original version of The Killing comes to mind. Also do not miss The Bureau airing I believe on Sundance Now. It is one of if not the best espionage series ever produced. It is a mix of foreign and English languages.

(41,381 posts)I hate dubbed shows. I always have the setting on original language with English subtitles.
It is all a personal choice.
I dont think MHz Choice is dubbed, so you probably wont like it.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)to do all that reading during a film. I did notice that certain languages might be closer to english in length or the way words are formed? IOW, the dubbing looks more natural and less distracting? Or maybe quality of dubbing has become more advanced. On Borgen, I swear there were times I could have sworn they were actually speaking english.

(2,769 posts)For instance when Birgitte was on the phone speaking to someone at the UN, she flipped to English (or French).
